Discipleship

Before Jesus was lifted into heaven, he commanded his disciples to go out into the world and make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:18). At Bethel CRC Saskatoon, shepherding believers and making disciples of all people is an essential part of our ministry. To do this, we offer small groups, Bible studies, and catechism classes for men and women.

Small Group Bible Studies

Small groups start in the fall and meet regularly to go through a Bible study or book. These groups run throughout the year, usually wrapping up in spring. They are a great way to meet new people, get more involved in the church, and to grow in your faith.

Catechism Classes

Throughout the year, the Bethel CRC community comes together to study and learn the Heidelberg Catechism. There are classes for both adults and high school students. In each class, we explore one or more questions from the catechism and examine the accompanying answer and Scripture.

The Heidelberg Catechism was written in 1531 by Protestant reformers in Germany. Created as a teaching instrument for all ages, it promoted unity and a common confession among believers. It is Calvinist in its theology and has been used for centuries by thousands of Reformed Christians. It is written in a question and answer format, divided into three sections: Misery, Deliverance, and Gratitude. Some of the 129 questions include such queries as: What is your only comfort in life and in death? Did God create people so wicked and perverse? What do you believe concerning “the forgiveness of sins”?

We hope that studying the catechism will deepen your theological understanding, answer your most profound questions, and draw you deeper into a relationship with God.

The high school students go through a similar study on Sunday evenings.

Men's and Women's Bible Study

The men and women of Bethel CRC meet together to grow in relationship, to provide an opportunity for confession, and to study the Scripture.

Men meet every second Saturday during winter months for a time of Bible study and fellowship.

Women meet Monday mornings from 9:30-11:30, September through May for women’s Bible study. This is a time for building relationships and Bible study with coffee and (home-made) refreshments.

Senior's Bible Study

About once a month, the seniors of Bethel CRC gather together after the church service to enjoy soup and fellowship. Together they study Scripture and grow in relationship with God.

Once a year, there is a Senior’s Supper when the group gathers for a Christmas dinner, to sing carols, and celebrate Christ’s birth. Newcomers are welcome!
